Frequently asked questions

Cost and accounts

Does it cost anything?

No. Every game page lists the price as "Free". The site has no checkout, no subscriptions and no payment feature of any kind.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-in and no player accounts exist. Your favourites and recently played list are kept in your browser; see My games.

Do I have to download or install anything?

No. Games run in your browser. Open a game page and press Play. See Getting started.

Is there an app?

No. There are no native apps. One Game a Day is a website with layouts for large screens and for phones; what has and has not been tested is listed in Devices and browsers.

Games and releases

How often do new games arrive?

One game is released per day. Each day has one release slot, and it opens at a fixed time that is shown in the footer of every page. See Game of the Day and the daily release.

If a day ever passes without a release, the front page says so honestly: it shows the most recent game labelled as the latest release, not as today's.

Where do earlier games go?

Nowhere. A released game keeps its own page after its day. You can find them on All games and, day by day, in the release history.

A game the team retires leaves the front page, search and the rankings, but stays in the release history and remains playable. The team can also withdraw a game completely, in which case its page is removed.

How can I follow new releases?

Visit the front page, or subscribe to the RSS feed at https://onegameaday.net/feed.xml in a feed reader. There are no email notifications.

Why does the front page say "Latest game" and not "Today's game"?

Because no game has been released in the current daily slot. The site shows the most recent release and says how long ago it came out, instead of presenting it as today's.

Why is there no countdown?

The countdown appears only when a next release has actually been scheduled. It never counts down to a release that does not exist.

From real play sessions, where someone played a game for a while. Page views do not count, and no numbers are made up. See How Most played and Trending are calculated.

Can I rate, review or comment on a game?

No. The site has no ratings, reviews or comments, and no achievements or streaks.

Saves and your data

Are my saves kept?

If a game saves progress, it is stored by your browser on your device, separately for each game. Nothing is saved to a server, so saves do not move between devices, and clearing your browser's stored data removes them. See My games.

Can I play offline?

No. You need a connection to load the site and each game. There is no offline mode.

Are there adverts?

No. The site shows no advertising today: no banners, no video ads before or during games, and no sponsored placements. The site does advertise itself on Google, and may load Google's tag to measure that. The tag sets cookies only if you allow it when asked.

What does the site know about me?

Very little, and nothing that identifies you. There are no accounts, and the site sets no cookies of its own. The site counts page opens, game starts and active play time so that it can rank games fairly.

You can switch that measurement off for your browser on the privacy page. Games still work; your plays simply stop counting toward the rankings.

The privacy page is the authoritative statement. Privacy and safety in brief gives a short summary.

Can a game access my camera, microphone or location?

No. Each game runs in an isolated frame in which those device features are switched off, whatever the game asks for.

The site

Which browsers work?

The site has been tested in Google Chrome on a desktop computer and in Chrome's phone emulation. Other modern browsers are expected to work but have not been verified. See Devices and browsers.

Is the site available in other languages?

Not yet. It is in English only.

Can I submit my own game?

There is no public submission form. Games are added by the One Game a Day team. Submitting a game explains what a game needs and how to get in touch.

Is there an API?

No. There is no public API or SDK, for players or for developers.

How do I contact the team?

The About page says how to reach the team.

Something is not working. What should I try?

Start with Troubleshooting.
